In 1965 Richard Hamilton made a screen print of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. By simplifying and idealising the form, he turned the building into a symbol for the ‘museum’: a Pop icon. In 1966 Hamilton made six large reliefs of the same subject in fibreglass and in 1970 he developed a smaller multiple in black, white and chromed perspex. This relief is one of the twenty that the artist personally spray-painted and is therefore unique.
