More information

The apostles can be identified by their attributes: knife, shell (on the hat), lance, chalice, key and club. The set must originally have comprised thirteen drawings, eight of which are known today. Those of St Thomas and St Andrew are now in museums in New York and
London, that of St Paul is in a private collection. The chiaroscuro drawings, six of which are dated 1527, are probably not by Holbein himself, but by a collaborator from his Basel workshop.
