In the fifties, the CoBrA artists, including Karel Appel and Corneille, searched for a more honest and intuitive representation of the world around them. They praised the visual language of children’s drawings, which had freed themselves from the rules of composition and perspective. In this drawing, Wim T. Schippers refers to this, but the mocking title strips it of any serious intention.
