More information

Jacob Sang, a professional engraver and glass merchant in Amsterdam, was a master of copper wheel engraving. An illustration is engraved in the glass by holding it against a rapidly revolving copper wheel. This glass, in clear, colourless lead glass, shows a seascape with a fully-fitted three-master with flag, pennants and 20 cannon. On the back there is the motto: 'De Nooble Zeevaard' [The Noble Seafarer]. The glass is signed 'Jacob Sang, inv; et Fec: Amsterdam, 1761'
