This painting previously bore the title ‘View in the New Church in Delft during the service’. The building has since been identified at the St Bavo church in Haarlem. The painter shows a view of the church during a service from the Northern Side Aisle through the nave to the transept and the Brouwerskapel (Brewers Chapel). Van Vliet frequently portrayed Delft churches in his church interiors. Often these works also show the mausoleums of famous patriots such as Willem of Orange and Piet Hein.
