Hockney is one of the English Pop artists who reacted to Abstract Expressionism around 1960 by painting subjects from everyday life. This painting is an example of this: two deckchairs against a wall; that's all. With his loose figurative style Hockney remained a unique figure within the 1970s development of Hyper Realism.
