Ask anything

  • Jeenah asked

What song is on the untitled piece of the man with music in his behind.

  • Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen answered

Dear Jeenah, I am very sorry but I cannot answer this question with certainty until somebody takes up the challenge and tries to play the musical score. In his 2016 show at the MoMA, Gober explicitely referred to 'Climb Ev'ry Mountain' from Robert & Hammerstein (=The Sound of Music, 1959). It might be this song. Do you play an instrument? Would you care to try? Thanks on beforehand, Els

  • Claudia asked

What is the meaning of this object?

  • Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen answered

Hello Claudia, This object does not have a fixed meaning. In modern art, the meaning a work is often partly depending on the perspective of the person who is looking at it. So I would like to invite you to look closely and try to formulate what you see and what kind of thoughts and questions bring this work about. Your ideas and interpretations are as valid as anyone else's. I hope this is helpful, kind regards, Els

  • Cat asked

What song is printed on the butt?

  • Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen answered

Hi Kat, thanks for your question. We don't know yet and in fact we are waiting for visitors who can play the piano to answer this question. Kind regards, Els
