The drawing shows the Vallée de l’Arc with the railway viaduct and Mont St Victoire near Cézanne’s house in Aix-en-Provence. He drew the scene from a hill behind Montbriand, his sister’s country house. The drawing is related to one of his early paintings. The right section of the top half with the central tree and the viaduct is based on the drawing.
