As well as sketches and fgure studies for his large oil paintings and frescos, Tiepolo occasionally made separate drawings of landscapes and buildings. They are fuent sketches in pen and brush and brown ink. Tiepolo was a master of chiaroscuro effects. The location in this drawing can be identifed by the church depicted in it, which the artist saw from his own roof terrace.
