More information

Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen owns almost the complete graphic oeuvre of the three great 18th-century Venetian masters, Piranesi, Canaletto and Tiepolo, thanks to J.C.J. Bierens de Haan (1867-1951), who bequeathed his collection of 26,000 prints to the museum together with a large sum of money to establish a fund for the acquisition of graphic art (Stichting Lucas van Leyden). Piranesi is best known for two sets of etchings, the ‘Carceri’ (prisons) and the ‘Vedute di Roma’ (views of Rome).
