This is one of four known caricatures with dwarf-like characters by Tiepolo. Their grotesque heads are much too large for their bodies. In broad daylight the servant holds a lantern to light the way for the richly dressed couple, who allow him to make fools of them by this superfluous service. Giandomenico was influenced by his father Giambattista's caricature drawings, bound in three albums, which he had inherited.
