During the weekend of February 1 to 4, 2024, visual artist Rosa Barba will present two multidisciplinary performances in Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen: VOICE ENGINE and Hear, There Where the Echoes Are. On the fifth floor, Barba creates an orchestral dialogue with films, sounds and sculptures.
The artist's monographic installation and performance follows her project Drawing Probable Conclusions, in which she explored the film and video collection of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in conversation with the museum's former curator of modern and contemporary art, Francesco Stocchi. The performances are also part of the Art Directions program of International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), as well as Rotterdam Art Week.
Set amidst film projectors and suspended glass panels, VOICE ENGINE (2021-2024) is activated by choral singers and based on a score by composer Eric D. Clark. Singers become protagonists, as their vocalizations trigger projectors to reveal images and text on a constellation of screens surrounding them. In Hear, There Where the Echoes Are (2016-2024), film projectors are triggered by the frequencies of Chad Taylor’s virtuosic drums’ composition. Barba accompanies on cello.
