The museum's mission

Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen stands for freedom of expression, with respect for ideas (old, new and provocative) and offers everyone a challenging and value-free perspective on the world. The museum does this by presenting visual art and design with a lively, attractive and inter-disciplinary approach. Collecting, research, documenting, restoration, conservation and providing public access take place in a context that has been developed over centuries and in dialogue with others. The museum brings together knowledge and insights from diverse sources and feeds them into the collection, the programme and the organisation. The museum has a dynamic and progressive approach to programming, with the collection as the starting point and the public domain as the goal. It affords everyone the opportunity to wander through the history of art, from the Middle Ages to the present day.
